Beirut Bombing: 25 Years Later

The 25th anniversary of the Beirut bombings of 1983 was October 23rd of 2008. That’s a special day to Marines and their families across the country, and for many, signifies the beginning of the war on terror. Nearly 250 U.S. service members, mostly Camp Lejuene Marines, were killed that day when a suicide bomber drove a truck into barracks. 

That day is also special for my family. My dad was there in Beirut serving the Marine Corps when I was born. Thankfully, my dad was OK. Many of his friends were not.

For the 25th anniversary, my family and I traveled to Camp Lejeune, NC for the ceremony. In addition to my dad, I found several other veterans and interviewed them. Here’s the story:
