It’s a very unsettling thought, your home invaded by bed bugs! While experts say you should always be vigilant, they warn that the holiday season is a fine time for those little pests to become an even bigger problem.
“Bed bugs are consummate hitchhikers. They can ride on your shoelace, on your pant leg, your coat or your luggage. I would suggest any travelers be cautious,” says Michael Green with http://www.inspectorusa.com/ SWAT Termite and Pest Control.
There are a few things you can do to keep these little guys from latching onto you or your stuff. “When you go home, immediately take your clothes off, put them in the laundry, in a good hot dryer and that should take care of it,” recommends Green.
When staying in a hotel, bring a flashlight and check out the room yourself. “Look at the sheets, do you see any blood spots? Because what happens when the bugs feed they are engorged with blood and a lot of times you will roll over on them, and, squish,” says Green.
If you plan to go see a movie, ladies might want to leave their purses at home. “That’s one less thing for a bed bug to crawl into, and for you to bring home,” says Green.
A few other things to keep in mind, when you have a holiday party, don’t throw those coats on your bed. Have a designated spot instead. Green also recommends pre-treating your home before you have a holiday party. That way, if a bug does hop into your home, you at least have a basis of protection. Clearing out clutter can also help, because the fewer places the bugs have to hide, the better.
