State Rep. Injured Trying To Break Up Fight Remains In Critical Condition

Here’s my story from today, a bizarre and sad situation.

A Kentucky legislator remains in critical condition almost 24 hours after he was injured trying to break up a fight.

Rep. Dewayne Bunch, 49, also teaches at Whitley County High School. He was punched at least once in the head as he was trying to separate a 15 and 16-year-old involved in a fight in the school cafeteria. He fell to the floor, hitting his head and was knocked unconscious. EMS took Bunch to a Corbin Hospital. He was later transported to UK Hospital.

Family, friends and coworkers continue to pray for Bunch’s recovery.

“It’s really scary. We are concerned for the family. Our prayers are with them,” Whitley County School superintendent Scott Paul said.

Surveillance video capture the incident. The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department says the two teens involved in the fight face assault charges.
