As a journalist, the internet is an invaluable tool. I often wonder how in the world reporters did their jobs before Google. Seriously. I suppose they actually read maps, or something like that. Pffffffft.

That being said, it can also be a scary thing. One of the tools I use ALL the time as a reporter to track people down, is Spokeo. It’s fantastic, but it’s not necessarily something everyone wants to be listed on. For example, I just searched myself and found my actual college dorm room listed! Creepy. If you’re one of those people who prefers to be “unlisted,” you can simply remove yourself from the site by clicking here.

Hopefully the people I really need to get a hold of will not remove themselves from the site. Otherwise, I’ve just shot myself in the foot. Back to the dark ages, I suppose!

  1. Ok, I’m not sure what is creepier: the fact that there are 3 Meredith Plant’s out there (gotta admit – it’s a pretty random name!) or the fact that this website even exists. Thanks for the tip. The info that they had on me was outdated by about 3+ years, but still…creepy.

Oh – I’m not a stalker. lol I just enjoy your tweets, etc., especially because you post about dogs a lot!
