Crews in Garrard County rescued a cow Tuesday afternoon that had fallen off a cliff literally while giving birth to a calf.
The cow was discovered after the farmer who owns it, who said the cow had been missing for two days, noticed that she had fallen off of a 150-foot cliff on his farm. Rescue crews from three counties were brought in, and it took about four hours to lift the cow to safety.
Crews said it appears the cow gave birth to the calf as she fell down the cliff. The calf did not survive.
A veterinarian was brought in, and said the cow was suffering from dehydration, but otherwise was expected to be fine.
