Police Still Searching for Carjacking Suspect

Lexington Police are searching for a man who forced his way into a woman’s car just before Noon on Monday.

“I just heard a lady screaming and she was saying don’t hurt me,” says Tina Ballew, a neighbor.

It all started at the four-way stop at Woodhill and Codell, when a woman says a man got into the car with her and told her to drive. The woman drove and pulled into a driveway, she then screamed and jumped out of the car. Police say the man got out of the car and ran.

“I just heard the screaming, I threw my clothes on and by the time I got out there I saw her crying and some other people around her,” says Sherry Payne who lives nearby.

The man got away but did not take anything. Police say the victim is temporarily living in Lexington. She is obviously shaken up, but sustained only a few bumps and bruises.

Police say the woman did the right thing by screaming. “Getting away from the threat is absolutely the right thing to do,” says Lt. J.J. Lombardi, with Lexington Police.

Police are still looking for the man. He is described only as a black man in his 20’s with dread-locks, possibly wearing a white tank-top and jeans.
