Meet Charlie, a heartbreaking but also heartwarming story about second chances.
Charlie is the spokesdog for Lexington Humane Society’s annual event Beastie Ball. Please read his story and consider donating in his honor. No amount is too small!
I’m Charlie, one of the 400 + animals currently in the care of the Lexington Humane Society. While all of the canines, felines and even equines at LHS are special and receive exceptional care, I think I might get a little “extra” attention and love because of what I’ve been through. All the hugs and treats have helped to keep my spirits high…
From the minute the nice staff of LHS carried me into their shelter, I knew I was in good hands. When I first arrived, I was pretty beat up and was so weak from the infection that had taken over my entire body I couldn’t walk or even hold my head up. You see, first I had been attacked by a couple of dogs and received terrible injuries to my face and leg. And then I didn’t receive the medical attention I needed, which allowed infection to ravage my body.
Thankfully, at LHS I received the immediate veterinary care I so desperately needed. With the proper care and my strong will to survive, I regained my strength and was able to have surgery to repair my wounds. Sad to say, my right ear was too far gone to be saved, so it was removed. But no worries, it’s all good—my hearing is still great, and my repairs make me that much more special.
My amazing will to get better and friendly disposition have inspired a lot of people I have met. Life is tough sometimes but friends and a whole lot of love can help you through the tough times. Thanks to my LHS friends, I’m well on my way to a full recovery (just minus an ear). You could even say, I may be scarred but I am no longer scared!
The life-saving work provided by my friends at LHS is expensive. Please, help ensure they can continue to save animals like me. Donate now and let them know you care as much as they do.
Oh, and just to let you know, as much as I love the pals I get to hang with every day at LHS, I still want a family to call my own. So if you know anyone, let me know.
