The latest person to jump the White House fence was released from jail Monday afternoon.
Jerome Hunt, 54, of Hayward, Calif., was arrested when he hopped the fence on the South Lawn at about 10:30 p.m. ET Sunday, according to Secret Service officials. Hunt was carrying a package that was later deemed harmless.https://vine.co/u/910054482031808512
Hunt has been charged with unlawful entry, a misdemeanor punishable by a $1,000 fine or up to six months in jail. Hunt will be required to undergo a mental health assessment and will be monitored by a GPS tracking device.
“It’s a little weird to think people can just jump the fence,” said Lucas Arend, who was visiting the White House for the first time with classmates from Paulding High School in Paudling, Ohio.
But it’s no surprise to Tim Scanlon, who has been leading tours at the White House for a decade. “Another one?” he asked.
