One of the best things about living in an incredible city like Washington, D.C.? You get visitors all the time! It’s that time of year, too…the activities in our nation’s capitol our endless, the weather is good and the vacations are bountiful. Having visitors also helps us to re-explore our city – so often we don’t fully appreciate how fantastic this city is. New people coming in town gives us an excuse to venture to new spots! I highlighted a few of those below. Can’t wait for y’all to come back! Who is next? xo
This summer we had visitors from Ocean City come in town for a Nats game (they won!)
My sisters and a couple of UT football players – AJ Johnson & Curt Maggitt (love these guys) visited us for the 4th of July and my sister’s 30th birthday. Highlights: Top Golf in Alexandria (no, I am not the best golfer) and the Brixton rooftop bar in DC!
My wonderful parents made the trek up from Tennessee to see our new house and spend the weekend with us. Highlights: Westover Market in Arlington – fantastic spot for a chill Friday night in the biergarten! Orange Anchor on the Georgetown Waterfront and Blue Jacket brewery in DC! Last but not least – Tupelo Honey. Southerners to DC have to check out this southern favorite spot that us DC’ers are now OBSESSED WITH! (Grits? Yes.) Sidebar: The pictures below of my dad stretching and sleeping outside on a mattress? Funny story: My dad, the USMC Colonel, is a true outdoorsman. He has slept in many of deserts – and still enjoys sleeping under the stars. So while we enjoyed a rooftop dinner one night, Dad joked that he would love to sleep outside. I replied (also joking) we can bring out the air mattress! His response? YES! And no, he was not joking.
My sweet in-laws also made the drive up from Tennessee for the weekend to see our new digs!
Highlights: Eddie V’s in Tyson’s. Fancy seafood restaurant that is so much more than just seafood. Props to our amazing service, both waiters and managers were incredible. Confession: We definitely went back to Tupelo Honey.
My former coworkers at LEX 18 drove up from Kentucky for an impromptu weekend get away! (And brought the one-and-only pup, Cooper!) Highlights: This was a quick trip for my Kentucky friends, so I took them to an old standby favorite – Northside Social in Arlington. Great breakfast and coffee (journos rejoice) plus a gorgeous patio!
And even older coworkers from my Hagerstown days – stopped by for a quick lunch to celebrate their engagement! Yay for Harold and Marci! Highlight: Seeing the soon-to-be-newlyweds, of course — and a yummy lunch at the Daily Grill.
